Below you will find a Campaign Sermon, Worship Celebration, Children’s Sermon, Bulletin insert master and poster.
A few comments regarding their usage:
1. Sermon—
- It was a bit difficult to couch the presentation of the campaign in a sermon context. Please adapt this in any way you might see fit…Especially middle, page two and bottom, page six where you will need to personalize this regarding “where” your congregation is with the campaign decision-making…
2. Worship—
- I did not choose the hymns, knowing you will make much better choices than I, as you know your congregation, and personalize the service for your people…
- Psalm 1—This serves as a “call to confession”…It is not printed in the service because of space…Suggestion: You may wish to have a reader or cantor simply do the psalm with a single voice…
- I wrote in the Lesson to be the Children’s Sermon…an idea for this is enclosed.
- You may wish to add a Lesson preceding or following the Children’s Sermon…I chose not to, but simply allowed the Gospel to stand as the key and only scripture for the day…
- I took some liberties with the creed, interspersing Luther’s explanation to the Second Article, making it a part of the statement of belief for this day…
- You may wish to add an offertory…
- I used the mission statements of the three campaign partners—the Nebraska Synod, NLOM and NeLCM—as the organizing structure for the Litany of Thanks…I capitalized these, since they are not referenced or credited as mission statements of these organizations…
- I would encourage you to write a Benediction (Good Word) for this day in your own style…
- I would also encourage you to write a “Word of Sending” given prior to the “Go in Peace…”
- Note—Confession was inspired by the writing of Walter Bruggemann’s Inscribing the Text, and Call to Worship was inspired by Ernst Nussmann’s Take a BREAK.
Please use any/all of the materials as you see fit. I do hope they are helpful in presenting this great new ADVENTURE in mission and ministry for our Christ with this campaign.
I believe this campaign, as we are successful, will change the very fabric of our life and walk together as a Nebraska Synod, and I thank you for your partnership, energy and passion for the campaign.
God bless you this wonder-filled new fall! Rev. Roger L. Sasse/Campaign Chair For the Campaign Steering Committee
