Letter from Bishop Dave deFreese PDF Print E-mail
Dear Friends:

It is with a great sense of eagerness and anticipation that I introduce you to the Nebraska Synod Campaign for Leadership and Youth. This exciting fund-raising effort focuses on deepening our leadership resources and strengthening our synod’s ministries so that our collective reach for Christ continues to be strong and effective.

The Campaign is the direct result of a strategic planning process that sought to determine how to the Nebraska Synod could effectively prepare to meet the changing, shifting future as we desire to be Christ in this world. The planning process examined our mission, vision and core values. It identified our strengths and weaknesses.

Through the strategic planning process we reached three primary conclusions. First, the key to Christ’s mission is rooted in leadership. Second, the way to meet the world’s changing needs is to identify more leaders for Christ’s Church and to strengthen our present leaders. Third, the greatest sources of leaders are our congregations and our outdoor ministry and campus ministry organizations.

In response, a coalition was formed between the Nebraska Synod, Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries and Nebraska Lutheran Campus Ministry. And, the Nebraska Synod Campaign for Leadership and Youth was born! The image of our work together is a tree, which properly nourished through its roots, bears fruit and grows an entire forest.

I warmly invite everyone—both individuals and congregations—across the Nebraska Synod to participate in this exciting campaign that will dramatically expand our ability to serve Christ in the present and in the future. May God bless you as join us in Christ’s mission of making disciples.

David L. deFreese, Bishop

When I attended Campus Lutheran throughout my college career I was blessed with the guidance and support to look into aspects of ministry as a possible professional career. It gave me the resources I needed to make the decisions of whether ministry was the appropriate option for me.
